Consider how the wild flowers grow ~ Luke 12:27
Illustration of the Month

Alas, poor Yorick...
I've always loved the plays of William Shakespeare, and one of his plays that interest me the most is Hamlet.
I had an image in my head of a female Hamlet in dark blue velvet, with long, red hair, and had to draw her.
Her expression is melancholy and wanton, contemplating on the tragic events around her. I kept the colours around her dark and simple, so the eye is drawn to her bright hair and white skull. The design on the border is inspired by medieval manuscripts, and features symbols representing the story (daisies for Denmark, snakes for treachery and nobility, and a crown). Painted with acrylic paint.
